Eco-Friendly, You Can't Avoid It

Miss me? I know it's been quite some time since I lost wrote, so here it is! =)

Being Eco-friendly isn't new, and it's something that every company has to move towards or be left in the dust.

Sunchips is the first chip bag to be decomposable, thought it was pretty interesting.  Just shows that this movement or trend of being eco-friendly, is unavoidable - it's a must.

GOLD!

Canada finally wins GOLD on home ground!
Alexandre Bilodeau wins Gold for Canada!
So the beginning was a rough start, but it's getting better.
It's all about the finish =)

His story is really touching and sweet about him and his older brother Federic.
Alexandre and Federic Bilodeau

Anyhow, back to studying.
There is much for me to update...
So what to expect soon is
1. The outcome of the Superbowl get-together I hosted (wings+blue cheese dip+nacho recipes with it!)
2. Looking for place to go to for some good poutine?  Well I found an article that lists the top 5 places, and Steve's (the restaurant I mentioned in my first blog post) isn't listed.  I'm excited to try these places out to see if the poutine there is really that good and worth the $$
3. Sunchips

Winter Games

The Olympics are here...
and so far it doesn't seem like the greatest start.

The tragic death of the 21 year old Georgian luge athlete.  My heart sank when I heard this story.  You don't expect for a tragedy to occur at such a great event that brings people from all around the world together; a time that should be for celebrating.

The 4th pillar not coming up for the torch lighting indoor. That's kind of embarrassing... The look on Steve Nash's face while waiting for the pillars to come up was priceless though.

Delay in a men's skiing event because of the snow conditions.

The 1500m men's speed skating race.  It looked like a clear win for gold, silver and bronze for the South Korean athletes until one fell and took out the other.  At least Korea got a gold medal, but so very close to taking it all.

Mogul freestyle downhill skiing (not sure if that's the proper event name).  Canada had a good chance at obtaining the first Gold on home ground, but fell slightly short of that and placed 2nd.

Women's relay should be a good race to watch since it should be very close among all 4 team finalists.

It's only the beginning, there is still more to come so it's too early to say what the final outcome will be. =)

Go Canada! Go S. Korea! =)

foodie*

I might be redundant about this but...
I LOVE Food!

So here is a lil taste of what I had today.
I went out tonight for a dear friend's birthday at Baton Rouge.  I have only been there once before and could not recall how the experience was.  This one I will remember though, because it was quite a delicious one =)

The setting of Baton Rouge has set the mood with the very dim lighting.  The structure of the interior as well as the furniture make me feel like there should be a live band and an open floor for those who want to dance to the music.  Might be weird...but when I think about the set up...that's what I think of hahaha.

As well it was quite loud when we were there so it became difficult at times to hear what someone was saying.
I took a few photos so that you can share in the experience to some extent.

Baton Rouge Mardi Gras Prix Fixe Menu
Appetizer - Jambalaya Cajun Soup
Main / Entree - BBQ Pork Back ribs
Going clockwise: Juicy fall-right-off the bone pork ribs, delicious sweet potato fries, one of the best coleslaw I've had, and the sauce which I used for the fries.
The portions are pretty generous...which is never a bad thing =)

Dessert - Bourbon Banana Bread
Bourbon Banana Bread (left), Key Lime Divine (right)

+ also got a the "Baton Rouge" burger

(I didn't eat this all to myself... =))
One thing I will say though, the dessert was not good at all.  We had a taste of 4 different types of desserts they offered, and none impressed me.
This is the picture of the other two desserts we tried.  (They brought it out for the birthday boy, and some of us think that these are just left over pieces hahaha.)

Tomorrow...or I guess really today, is Superbowl Sunday! So I've decided to have a few friends over to watch the game.  I'll be preparing crispy juicy wings with a lil spice as well as blue cheese sauce and nachos "the works".  I'm at least hoping that this will all turn out well since it's my first time trying the chicken wing recipe =).  I already did the prep work for the wings, and I was going to record the whole process from start til game time but I forgot to for tonight.  I'm going to update with pictures and the recipe I followed.

I'm looking forward to the outcome of tomorrow's cooking session! =) haha.
Hope you are too~

Potential First Trip of 2010

Here's something a lil funny.  I love travel, but I haven't traveled much.  So it's more like I love the idea of travel...because I oh-so want to travel!
So I was quite excited to hear there is a trip-in-planning for the Family Day weekend =)

The Few Options

- "Now you're in New York,
these streets will make you feel brand new,
the lights will inspire you..."

Where Seinfield, Sex and the City, and many many others, happened

So if you didn't get the idea already, New York City (I have never been there yet...)
There is definitely a lot to see and do there, but that will be saved for the autumn time because I don't want to go when it's cold and slushy nor when it's hot and muggy.

- "Viva Las Vegas"

Ocean's 11, 12, 13...one of my favourite movie trilogies. Another good one that has Matt Damon, The Bourne Trilogies!

Anyway getting back on track, Las Vegas, once again going to save this trip for another occasion.

- "If you're going to San Francisco,
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair,
if you're going to San Francisco,
You're going to meet some gentle people there..."

Full House!

So this is the one that we have settled with.  San Francisco, Cali.

Does anyone have any suggestions of places to visit in San Fran, such as restaurants/foods to try, or shopping, etc.
Any would be helpful! =)
So please feel free to leave a comment!

All three places I haven't been to yet, but soon hopefully, that will change!

The Start of Casual Fridays

It's pretty late, but I was hoping to start this yesterday so I'm already a day behind.

There are 3 things that I will be sharing here for the most part:
1. Food: I absolutely love food.  I love to try new foods and wish I had some more time to spare to try cooking more varieties of foods other than pasta, fried rice, and chicken.  I might post some recipes or share some restaurants I enjoyed...I'm not that much of a food critic since I LOVE food and eat almost anything (yes there a few items that I do not like to eat....one of those are dates).
2. Sports: I absolutely love sports.  I love to play sports, watch sports, hear about sports even though I don't follow a specific sport, I still learn a lot just by listening to my boyfriend and friends conversations of the game that was on last night.
3. Random interesting things: I guess this can be pretty general since it could mean anything and everything.  I do want to try and keep it interesting though.

I'll start off by a "FOOD for thought".
Recently I tried this place called Steve's.  It's fairly new since the last time I drove by it was a Korean restaurant and now it's a breakfast place (well for the most part...they do serve other foods like sandwiches and such).  Now the last place I went to for breakfast (I don't know if I should mention the name so I will not), I did not have a good experience and I had such high hopes for this place.  One: the wait for the food was very long and for breakfast food it shouldn't take that much time to make...at least not 30mins! Second: the portions were very small.  Third: the toast (which came out last) was something I was looking forward to since the main food was disappointing and how can toast go wrong?  Well it went wrong.  It seemed as though they took once slice and made it into 4 pieces unlike most places they take 2 slices and cut it in half.  On top of that, it wasn't even toasted much.  It was the worst toast.  I don't normally complain too much about food cause like I said I eat pretty much anything. But this breakfast was the worst breakfast I've ever had.  I figured that the dessert had to be at least good since they are known for their funnel cakes.  It turned out okay (was good) but Paramount Canada's Wonderland still has better funnel cakes.  Overall I would not go there again. I think they should have done a better marketing job since it was the "Grand Opening".  They could have done a promotion such as a certain discount off for the first week or so (maybe something like if a you bring in the flyer you get --% off your bill).  That could bring in more traffic and people wouldn't be so disappointed since they didn't pay for the full price, which means that customer might visit again.  Just a suggestion.
Anyhow I went off to a slight tangent as I was starting off with Steve's.  They had pretty good portions and the poutine was DELICIOUS! The whole meal was pretty good, but that poutine stood out.  It was so good.

Well there is my thought on a good and not as good breakfast place.  There are other mentionable restaurants but it is kind of late and it's an early day for me.

Goodnight =)
